Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh each to the families of six people who lost their lives due to electrocution during a Krishnaastami Shobha Yatra at Ramanthapur. IT Minister Sridhar Babu, who addressed the media, said the mishap occurred when a live current passed through a cable wire, leading to the tragic accident just 100 meters before the procession was about to conclude.
The Minister visited Gandhi Hospital on Monday, where several injured victims are receiving treatment. He assured the families that the government would bear the complete medical expenses of those undergoing care. During his visit, Sridhar Babu interacted with both the injured and the bereaved, promising all possible assistance in this difficult time.
Calling the incident “extremely tragic and unfortunate,” the Minister extended his condolences to the grieving families. He added that while the government is taking immediate steps to support the affected families, the accident has highlighted the need for stricter safety measures during public processions and festivals to prevent such mishaps in the future.
