Six-Year-Old Girl Hospitalised After Alleged Classroom Attack at Panchkula School

A six-year-old girl sustained critical injuries after she was allegedly attacked by an eight-year-old boy inside a classroom at a school in Panchkula, Haryana. According to police, the incident occurred on October 28 and the injured child was initially treated locally before being shifted to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh for advanced medical care. Authorities said the girl remains under treatment, while the incident has triggered widespread concern over student safety and supervision within educational institutions. Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact sequence of events that led to the alleged assault.

Investigators said a video, which is being widely circulated on social media and is being examined as part of the probe, allegedly shows the boy pulling the girl by her hair and repeatedly striking her head against a classroom desk. The footage also reportedly shows the girl falling to the floor before she is allegedly assaulted further, resulting in severe injuries. Police confirmed that the accused child is eight years old and is currently undergoing a mandatory medical and psychological assessment, as required under procedures applicable to children in this age group. Officials stated that further legal and rehabilitative action will depend on the findings of that assessment.

Police are also questioning the school management and staff to determine whether there were any lapses in supervision or safety measures at the time of the incident. Authorities are examining the circumstances under which the alleged assault took place inside the classroom and whether appropriate safeguards were in place to prevent such an occurrence. The case has drawn attention to the importance of child safety, behavioural monitoring, and timely intervention in schools, while investigators continue to gather evidence and await medical as well as assessment reports before deciding the next course of action.
