Tensions flared in Andhra Pradesh after supporters of A. Surendra Babu allegedly vandalised a toll plaza and assaulted staff in Annamayya district. The incident took place at the Gandaboyinapalle toll plaza when the MLA’s vehicle was briefly stopped, reportedly triggering anger among his followers and security personnel. What should have been a routine delay quickly escalated into violence, exposing how easily authority-linked groups can misuse power in public spaces.
Videos from the scene, which have gone viral, reportedly show toll workers—including a woman—being physically attacked, dragged, and pushed by the group accompanying the MLA. According to police, the vehicle reached the toll gate around 9:45 am on April 25, but was not cleared immediately as staff were dealing with payment issues involving vehicles ahead. Instead of waiting like any normal citizen, the situation turned aggressive, highlighting a clear breakdown of basic civic discipline and accountability.
Toll plaza authorities stated that the delay was due to ongoing online payment processing, not intentional obstruction. Despite that, the reaction from the MLA’s entourage was disproportionate and unlawful. Police have acknowledged the incident, and further action is expected as scrutiny increases. Strip away the politics, and this is straightforward: misuse of influence, public intimidation, and a system that often fails to hold powerful individuals accountable unless there is public outrage.
