SWISS Flight Aborts Takeoff at Delhi Airport After Engine Issue, Six Passengers Injured During Emergency Evacuation

A SWISS international flight from New Delhi to Zurich was forced to abort takeoff at Indira Gandhi International Airport in the early hours of April 26 after an issue was detected in one of its engines. The aircraft, an Airbus A330 operating as flight LX147, was accelerating on the runway around 1:08 am when the crew made the decision to halt takeoff. Recognizing the potential risk, the pilots acted immediately, preventing a situation that could have escalated if the aircraft had become airborne.

Following the aborted takeoff, the crew initiated an emergency evacuation as a precaution. All passengers and crew members were evacuated using emergency slides, a standard safety procedure in such situations. However, the rapid evacuation led to six passengers sustaining injuries, who were later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. A small number of passengers who could not use the slides were assisted using stairs, ensuring everyone was safely removed from the aircraft.

The airline confirmed that a technical team will be sent to Delhi to inspect the aircraft and determine the exact cause of the engine malfunction. At the same time, efforts are underway to assist affected passengers with rebooking and accommodation. With over 230 passengers onboard, the incident highlights both the seriousness of in-flight technical issues and the importance of swift crew response, which ultimately prevented a far more dangerous outcome.
