Rain Halts Women’s World Cup Final: Toss and Play Delayed in Navi Mumbai

Persistent rain disrupted the much-anticipated ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final between India and South Africa at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai. The showers began early in the morning and intensified around 1 PM, forcing officials to delay both the toss and the start of play. The initial plan to begin at 3:30 PM was scrapped after heavy rain returned at 2:45 PM, leaving thousands of fans waiting under umbrellas as ground staff rushed to cover the field.

Despite forecasts by the IMD suggesting only light rain and cloudy skies, the downpour persisted well into the afternoon. The entire pitch area and bowling ends were covered, but the uncovered square regions risked soaking, worsening ground conditions. Frustrated spectators, many of whom had queued up hours before the match, were left disappointed as hopes of an early start faded with each passing minute.

The match officials confirmed that overs would only be reduced if the delay continued beyond 5 PM local time. In case of a complete washout, a reserve day on Monday has been allocated for the final. The India vs South Africa clash is expected to decide a new ODI world champion in women’s cricket — provided the rain gods finally show mercy on Navi Mumbai.
