EC Announces Special Electoral Roll Revision in Six States and UTs

The Election Commission of India has announced a Special Summary Revision (SSR) of the electoral rolls in Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Mizoram, Odisha, and Sikkim. The exercise is aimed at updating the voter list by enrolling all eligible citizens, with a special focus on young and first-time voters. It will also allow advance registration for individuals who will become eligible to vote on April 1, July 1, and October 1, 2027. As part of the schedule, the draft electoral rolls will be published on November 30, giving voters an opportunity to verify their details and submit claims or objections if required.

The revision process is an important step in ensuring that electoral rolls remain accurate, transparent, and inclusive ahead of future elections. After the publication of the draft rolls, election officials will accept applications for additions, corrections, and deletions before preparing the final list. The Election Commission has fixed January 21, 2027, as the date for the final publication of the revised electoral rolls. This process is expected to strengthen the electoral system by ensuring that every eligible citizen has an opportunity to be included in the voter list.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the revision exercise, the Election Commission has directed the Chief Secretaries of the concerned States and Union Territories to provide adequate manpower, infrastructure, and administrative support. Officials have been instructed to coordinate closely with election authorities so that the revision is completed efficiently and within the prescribed timeline. The Commission reiterated that maintaining updated electoral rolls is essential for conducting free, fair, and credible elections across the country.
