The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts of Telangana, warning of very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squally winds on Wednesday. According to the latest weather forecast, eastern parts of the state, including Mancherial, Peddapalle, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Karimnagar, Siddipet, Mulugu, Hanamkonda, Warangal, Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Khammam, and Bhadradri Kothagudem, are expected to receive intense rainfall. The weather department has advised residents in the affected areas to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, and closely follow official advisories.
Weather experts have also warned that some districts could witness extremely heavy rainfall capable of triggering flash floods. Telangana weather analyst T. Balaji predicted that Bhadradri Kothagudem would continue to experience torrential downpours, with Khammam, Mulugu, and parts of Mahabubabad also likely to receive heavy showers. While Hyderabad is not expected to face the same level of rainfall, the city is likely to witness intermittent light to moderate rain accompanied by cloudy skies and occasional thunderstorms. Authorities have urged people to plan their travel carefully as rain may affect road conditions and daily activities.
The warning comes after several parts of Telangana recorded exceptionally heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours. Bhadradri Kothagudem received the highest rainfall in the state at 231.8 mm, while Khammam recorded 218.6 mm, causing concerns over waterlogging and localized flooding. In Hyderabad, Ameerpet registered the city’s highest rainfall at 21.6 mm. With more rain expected through the day, officials have advised citizens to remain alert, especially those living in low-lying areas, and to monitor weather updates as conditions may change rapidly.
