TGSRTC Woman Conductor Succumbs to Injuries After Alleged Push From Moving Bus

A 24-year-old Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) woman conductor, Gundla Pravalika, died while undergoing treatment after she was allegedly pushed out of a moving bus following an argument with a passenger over ticket change. The incident occurred on October 25 when Pravalika was on duty aboard a Palle Velugu bus travelling from Manuguru to Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. According to police, the dispute began after a passenger identified as Mounika demanded the balance immediately after handing over a ₹100 note for a ticket. Pravalika reportedly asked her to collect the remaining change when she got off the bus, leading to a heated argument that allegedly ended with the conductor being pushed from the moving vehicle. She suffered severe injuries after falling onto the road, with the rear wheel of the bus crushing her right leg.

Despite receiving intensive medical treatment at a Hyderabad hospital for more than a week, Pravalika succumbed to her injuries on November 3. Expressing grief over her death, Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar announced financial assistance of ₹10 lakh for her family, a government job for her mother, and an Indiramma house. In addition, the RTC administration said the family would receive ₹1 crore under an accident insurance policy. TGSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Y. Nagireddy described Pravalika’s death as an irreparable loss to the corporation and assured the family of all possible support during this difficult time.

The incident triggered widespread protests by TGSRTC employees, with workers staging demonstrations outside the Manuguru depot and the Joint Action Committee calling for a bus strike across parts of the Khammam region. Employees demanded stronger security measures for RTC staff, strict legal action against the accused, and enhanced protection for frontline transport workers performing their duties. Police have taken the accused, Mounika, into custody and registered a case based on a complaint filed by the Manuguru depot manager. The investigation is continuing as authorities examine the circumstances that led to the fatal incident.
