Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Singh has accused wrestler Vinesh Phogat and the Congress of orchestrating a conspiracy against him. This follows Phogat and fellow wrestler Bajrang Punia’s entry into the Congress ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections. Singh, who has been defending himself against sexual assault allegations since 2023, claimed the athletes’ protest against him was politically motivated and scripted by Congress.
Allegations of Cheating and Political Motives
Singh expressed disappointment, accusing Phogat of cheating at the Olympics and both athletes of dishonoring the sport and female wrestlers. He questioned the legitimacy of Phogat’s achievements, alleging unfair trial practices, and claimed that Punia participated in the Asian Games without proper trials. According to Singh, Congress is exploiting the athletes for political gain, further tarnishing their reputation.
Denial of Sexual Assault Allegations
Denying all allegations of sexual misconduct, Singh insisted that evidence would prove his innocence, stating he was not in Delhi when the incidents allegedly occurred. He accused Congress of hypocrisy, arguing that the party’s actions, not his, have disrespected women, and labeled Bhupinder Hooda as the mastermind behind the alleged plot against him.
