Amaravati: A police head constable was killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool town on Tuesday morning. The victim, identified as Varaprasad Reddy (43), was serving in the Second Battalion of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP). According to police, he was out for a morning jog on a flyover along the national highway near Bellari Chowrasta when an unidentified vehicle allegedly struck him before fleeing the scene.
The impact reportedly threw the head constable off the flyover, causing him to fall onto the road below, where he died on the spot. Police shifted the body to a government hospital for a post-mortem examination and launched an investigation to identify the vehicle involved. Authorities are examining evidence from the accident site and nearby surveillance cameras to trace the driver responsible for the incident.
State Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha expressed grief over the death of the police officer and extended her condolences to his family. She directed officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and assured the family of all necessary government support. Varaprasad Reddy is the second police personnel to lose his life in a road accident in Andhra Pradesh within three days, after an Armed Reserve constable was killed in a separate crash in Prakasam district on July 12.
