Actor-turned-politician and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay on Monday met the families of the Karur stampede victims at a resort in Mahabalipuram, a month after the tragic incident. According to TVK sources, 37 families were brought from Karur to the venue, where the party had arranged around 50 rooms to host them. Vijay personally interacted with each family, listening to their grievances and offering his condolences for their irreparable loss. Lunch was also organized for all attendees as part of the meeting.
The TVK leader assured the bereaved families of continued support, promising both financial aid and assistance for their children’s education. The meeting was arranged by his party to give Vijay an opportunity to directly meet those affected and to express solidarity beyond public statements. The families were transported from Karur in five buses and were expected to return later in the evening, after completing the session with the actor-politician.
The Karur tragedy occurred on September 27 during a TVK public event addressed by Vijay, resulting in 41 deaths and leaving over 60 people injured. Following the incident, the TVK had credited ₹20 lakh each to the families of the deceased as compensation. Vijay’s latest gesture reinforces his commitment to standing by the victims’ families and ensuring their welfare — a move seen as both humanitarian and politically significant ahead of the party’s growing presence in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
