A 60-year-old assistant sub-inspector (ASI) identified as Devising lost his life after being hit by a speeding water tanker in Vikarabad district, Telangana. The incident occurred on Saturday, November 1, when the officer, attached to the Basheerabad police station, was stationed near PSE Gardens as part of his duty. CCTV footage captured the tragic moment showing the officer standing by the roadside when the tanker struck him. Despite immediate help from nearby police personnel, Devising succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The sudden loss of the officer sent shockwaves through the police department, with colleagues expressing grief over the untimely death of a respected officer known for his discipline and service record. Local residents who witnessed the incident alleged that the driver was speeding carelessly on a narrow stretch of road that often sees pedestrian and official activity. Authorities quickly moved the body for postmortem examination while the site was inspected by senior officials.
Police have registered a case against the tanker driver, who fled the scene soon after the accident. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest him. The department is also reviewing road safety protocols for on-duty officers working on highways and public routes. The incident has once again raised concerns about reckless driving and the lack of safety enforcement for law enforcement personnel on field duty.
