The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has warned that the entire state of Telangana, including the capital city Hyderabad, will experience a spell of heavy to very heavy rains from August 14 to 17. The weather department has issued an orange alert for most districts, urging residents to prepare for the possibility of waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and other rain-related issues. The alert comes after days of intermittent showers in the city, where visuals of submerged two-wheelers and flooded streets have already highlighted the intensity of recent rainfall.
Weather enthusiast T. Balaji, popularly known as the “Telangana Weatherman” for his accurate forecasts, attributed the upcoming heavy downpour to the impact of a low-pressure area (LPA) in the region. According to him, this weather system will affect all districts of Telangana, sparing no part of the state. IMD Hyderabad has issued an orange alert for August 13 and 14, indicating the potential for severe weather conditions, while Independence Day celebrations on August 15 may also see widespread rains across the state.
In Hyderabad, the IMD has placed the city under a yellow alert until August 13, forecasting moderate to heavy rains or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds. These conditions are also expected to push maximum temperatures down further, with current readings hovering around 27.5°C. Authorities have advised citizens to stay updated on weather bulletins and take necessary precautions, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding.
