The Telangana Auto Drivers Union Joint Action Committee has declared a statewide strike on December 7, accompanied by a large rally in Hyderabad that is expected to draw nearly one lakh participants. The union made the announcement during a state conference held at the Bashirbagh Press Club on November 21. Union leaders criticized both the previous BRS government and the current Congress government for failing to address the longstanding concerns of auto drivers.
Key demands include issuing 20,000 new auto permits in Hyderabad, implementing mandatory third-party insurance for autos, and increasing accident insurance coverage to Rs 10 lakh. Additionally, the union is seeking immediate financial assistance of Rs 12,000 for each auto driver’s family to ease financial burdens. Union leaders warned the Congress government that neglecting these demands could result in political consequences similar to those faced by the BRS in the recent elections.
The strike highlights the challenges faced by auto drivers across Telangana, who have repeatedly sought better welfare measures and government support. The rally in Hyderabad is expected to amplify their grievances and put pressure on the government to take prompt action.
