A senior oncologist was stabbed by a patient’s relative at Kalaignar Centenary Hospital in Chennai, sparking a statewide protest by the Federation of Government Doctors’ Association (FoGDA). Doctors are boycotting non-medical activities, affecting outpatient services across Tamil Nadu.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) joined the strike, with 45,000 doctors participating. Their demands include improved safety measures, such as two-tier security, designated safe zones, and a hospital protection force.
Tamil Nadu’s health minister responded by establishing a police outpost at the hospital and committing to additional security measures. CCTV installations are also underway.
