Supreme Court Allows YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia to Air Podcast

The Supreme Court has permitted podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia to air his show, “The Ranveer Show,” subject to maintaining morality and decency. The court also extended Allahbadia’s interim protection from arrest till further orders, while asking him to join the investigation in Guwahati. Allahbadia’s lawyer argued that the podcast was his only source of livelihood, supporting around 280 employees.

The court’s decision came after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta urged the court not to modify the condition of not airing any show, citing Allahbadia’s allegedly vulgar and perverse comments on his YouTube show “India’s Got Latent.” The bench cautioned Allahbadia against speaking about the case on his show and refused his request to travel abroad.

The Centre has been directed to draft a regulatory mechanism for social media content, which will be put up for public suggestions. Allahbadia had faced multiple FIRs for his comments on parents and sex on the show “India’s Got Latent.”
