Students’ Plea Forces HYDRAA to Act on Shamshabad Underpass Flooding

Several students from Shamshabad raised their voices against the recurring flooding issue at the Chinna Golkonda and Pedda Golkonda underpasses, which has been disrupting their daily commute to school. The group approached Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner, AV Ranganath, explaining how frequent waterlogging has made school transportation difficult, particularly when RTC buses get stuck under waterlogged stretches during heavy rains.

Responding to their concern, Ranganath personally inspected the open drains and nalas in the affected areas on Friday as part of a routine field visit. The students confronted him at the site and described the challenges they face during monsoons, with many unable to attend classes due to the poor drainage system and blocked underpasses. Their persistence brought the issue directly to the attention of the city’s top civic authority.

Commissioner Ranganath assured the students that the issue would be resolved soon. He instructed the engineering division to prepare an immediate action plan to repair and desilt the underpasses, ensuring smooth passage during future rains. The proactive approach by HYDRAA signals a shift toward citizen-driven accountability, where young voices are finally prompting long-overdue civic repair in Shamshabad.
