Shehbaz Sharif Credits Trump for Helping Secure India-Pakistan Ceasefire

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan will always remain grateful to US President Donald Trump for what he described as a timely intervention that helped bring about a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Speaking at a reception in Islamabad marking the 250th anniversary of American independence, Sharif said that tensions escalated after the Pahalgam terror attack and that Trump’s involvement played an important role in restoring peace in South Asia. He praised the US president as a “man of peace” and credited him with helping prevent a wider conflict.

Sharif also highlighted the long-standing relationship between Pakistan and the United States, describing it as a special partnership that has lasted for nearly eight decades. He noted cooperation in areas such as security, trade, investment, agriculture, education, healthcare, and energy. The Pakistani leader further praised Trump’s leadership style, saying it had brought renewed energy and determination to America’s global engagement and efforts to promote peace and prosperity.

India, however, has consistently rejected Trump’s claims that he mediated the ceasefire. New Delhi maintains that the understanding to end hostilities was reached directly between India and Pakistan without any third-party involvement. During the event, US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker also described the two countries as strategic partners, saying their relationship is built on mutual respect, shared interests, and a common vision for regional stability and economic growth.
