Ballari: The body of an unidentified woman was found floating in the Andral stream on the outskirts of Ballari city on Sunday morning, June 7, amid the aftermath of heavy rainfall that affected large parts of the district. Police officials suspect that the woman may have been swept away by strong water currents during the torrential rains that lashed the region a day earlier. Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was between 35 and 40 years of age, but her identity remains unknown.
Authorities have shifted the body to the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) mortuary for a post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation. Police have registered a case and are working to establish the identity of the woman while examining all possible circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials are also gathering information from nearby areas and reviewing missing persons reports to determine whether the victim was caught in the flooding caused by the recent downpour.
Meanwhile, continuous heavy rain created widespread disruption across Ballari city and surrounding regions, leading to overflowing streams, flooded residential areas, and major power supply interruptions. One of the worst-affected locations was a key KEB power station responsible for supplying electricity to large sections of the city. Electricity department personnel, supported by fire and emergency service teams, worked through the night to remove accumulated water and safeguard critical equipment. Civic authorities remain on alert as weather forecasts warn of further rainfall, while efforts continue to restore normalcy and assess the extent of damage caused by the severe weather conditions.
