New Delhi: Domestic consumers across the country will have to pay more for cooking gas after the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders was increased by Rs 29 with effect from June 7. Following the latest revision, the cost of a standard 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has risen from Rs 913 to Rs 942. This marks the second major increase in LPG prices within the last three months and comes amid continuing pressure on global energy markets.
The latest hike follows a Rs 60 increase implemented in March after tensions and conflict in West Asia disrupted energy supplies and pushed international fuel prices higher. Industry sources indicate that despite previous revisions, state-owned oil marketing companies were still facing substantial losses on the sale of domestic LPG cylinders. Officials estimate that before the latest increase, oil companies were losing around Rs 703 on every cylinder supplied to households, making a price adjustment necessary to partially offset mounting costs.
The increase in cooking gas prices comes at a time when consumers are already facing rising fuel expenses across multiple sectors. Analysts say fluctuations in global crude oil and gas markets continue to influence domestic fuel pricing, especially when international supply chains face disruptions. While the government and oil companies monitor market conditions closely, consumers may have to brace for continued volatility in energy prices if geopolitical tensions and global fuel costs remain elevated in the coming months.
