Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has strongly criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his statements in the Lok Sabha regarding the India-China border situation. Singh accused Gandhi of distorting facts and making false claims about the Indian Army Chief’s statement on Chinese incursions. In his speech during the Motion of Thanks to President Droupadi Murmu’s address, Gandhi alleged that the Chinese army had entered Indian territory, and despite this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued to deny the intrusion. Singh, however, refuted these claims, stating that the Army Chief never made such a statement and that Gandhi was indulging in “irresponsible politics” over national security issues.
Singh further clarified that the Army Chief’s actual remarks referred only to the temporary disturbance of traditional patrolling patterns by both India and China, which have now been restored. He also reiterated that China had occupied 38,000 sq km of Indian territory in Aksai Chin since the 1962 war during Congress rule and that Pakistan had illegally ceded 5,180 sq km to China in 1963. Singh urged Gandhi to reflect on this history instead of misleading the public. His remarks were echoed by several BJP leaders, who accused Gandhi of damaging India’s international reputation with his allegations. The controversy has added to the already tense political environment, with BJP leaders asserting that national security should not be used for political gains.
Meanwhile, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has officially requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to initiate privilege proceedings against Rahul Gandhi for allegedly distorting historical facts and ridiculing the nation. Dubey’s letter argues that Gandhi’s statements have lowered the prestige of the Indian Republic and misrepresented critical national security matters. This follows another privilege motion filed by BJP MPs against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi over her “poor thing” remark about President Droupadi Murmu. With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, the political battle between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress appears to be intensifying, with both parties locked in a heated war of words over key national issues.
