Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will contest the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections without any alliances, marking a decisive turn in the political battle for the capital. This announcement comes shortly after Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav also declared that his party would go solo. The lack of alliances sets the stage for a three-way contest between AAP, Congress, and BJP.
Kejriwal criticized the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi, accusing the Central government of targeting AAP leaders instead of tackling crime. He highlighted the arrest of AAP MLA Naresh Balyan as an example, alleging it was an attempt to intimidate those raising complaints against gangsters. The Chief Minister also pointed to a recent personal attack during a padyatra and accused the government of prioritizing political vendettas over public safety.
The AAP leader further stated that the absence of a Congress-AAP alliance would test the Grand Old Party’s ability to regain its lost voter base. Congress has failed to secure any seats in the past two Assembly elections. With the BJP’s dominance in the Lok Sabha polls and the Congress struggling to revive itself, AAP’s decision reflects its confidence in its independent electoral strategy.
