Israel Recruits African Refugees to Fight in Gaza War

The Israeli regime is recruiting African refugees to fight in the Gaza war in exchange for permanent residency status, according to a Haaretz report. The recruitment process is organized and supervised by the legal advisor to the security services.

Around 30,000 African refugees, mostly young men, live in Israel. Many have military backgrounds, having fought in wars in their home countries. Since October 7, 2023, Israel has lost over 621 soldiers, with 3,500 wounded. In contrast, Gaza’s health authorities report at least 41,182 Palestinian deaths.

Despite promises, Israel has yet to grant participants permanent legal status. This development raises concerns about the exploitation of vulnerable refugees and the escalating conflict in the region.
