On the occasion of National Unity Day, the Hyderabad police organized a grand ‘Run for Unity’ marathon on Friday, October 31, marking the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The event, held at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road, witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 5,000 citizens across all age groups. Simultaneous runs were also conducted in seven police zones of the city, reinforcing the message of unity, integrity, and national security inspired by Sardar Patel’s contribution to India’s political integration. The marathon was flagged off by Telangana DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy and actor Konidela Chiranjeevi, who served as the chief guests at the event.
Speaking at the event, DGP Shivadhar Reddy emphasized that the marathon was not just a fitness initiative but a symbolic call for national solidarity. He praised Sardar Patel’s leadership, which unified over 560 princely states, calling him the “architect of modern India.” Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar urged the youth to emulate Patel’s determination and contribute towards building a stronger and more ethical society. He also addressed the growing concern of cybercrime, warning citizens to remain alert against digital frauds and the rising ‘deep fake’ menace, which the police are actively investigating to trace its originators.
Chiranjeevi, who flagged off the marathon, delivered an impassioned speech highlighting Sardar Patel’s vision and legacy as a model for the present generation. He reiterated that Patel’s iron will transformed a divided India into a united nation, reminding the public of their collective duty to preserve that unity. The actor also echoed the police’s caution on cybercrimes, stating that the public must stay vigilant while using digital platforms. He assured that both the DGP and Commissioner Sajjanar are personally overseeing cases related to cyber threats, urging people not to panic as the Hyderabad police system is fully committed to public safety.
