GHMC Intensifies Road Repairs Ahead of Ganesh Procession in Hyderabad

With Vinayaka Chaturthi approaching, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a large-scale drive to repair potholes across the city. Continuous rainfall over the past several weeks has badly damaged roads, leaving commuters struggling with thousands of potholes. The condition of the roads has raised safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians alike, prompting the civic body to accelerate repair works before the upcoming Ganesh procession, when heavy traffic and large gatherings are expected.

According to GHMC Chief Engineer Sahdev Ratnakar, more than 13,000 potholes have been reported across the city since the onset of the monsoon. Out of these, over 10,000 have already been filled through round-the-clock operations. Teams are using both asphalt and concrete to ensure durable repairs. GHMC has deployed divisional teams zone-wise, prioritising key routes that will be part of the Ganesh procession. The efforts, officials say, are aimed at not only ensuring smooth traffic movement during the festivities but also reducing the risk of accidents in the rain-hit city.

Zone-wise updates show significant progress in the repair works. In the LB Nagar Zone, 2,360 out of 2,868 potholes have been repaired, while the Charminar Zone has covered 1,774 out of 2,227. Similarly, the Khairatabad Zone has repaired 1,316 out of 1,721, and Serilingampally Zone has addressed 1,290 out of 1,938. Kukatpally Zone has filled 1,649 of 1,941 potholes, and the Secunderabad Zone has repaired 1,722 out of 2,425. Officials assured that pending works will be completed on a war footing to make major routes safe and functional for the festive season.
