Atishi Announced as Delhi’s New Chief Minister as Arvind Kejriwal Resigns

Atishi has been chosen to succeed Arvind Kejriwal as the Chief Minister of Delhi, making her the third woman to hold this position after Sheila Dikshit and Sushma Swaraj. This decision was made during a legislative party meeting chaired by Kejriwal at his residence, where Atishi’s name was proposed. Kejriwal is set to resign later today, with a meeting scheduled with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at 4:30 pm.

As the new Chief Minister, Atishi has been entrusted with two key responsibilities. Firstly, she must continue serving the people of Delhi despite pressure from the BJP. Secondly, if the BJP attempts to reverse the positive work done by Kejriwal’s government, Atishi will safeguard AAP’s achievements while exposing BJP’s attempts to undermine them.

Atishi’s political career has been marked by significant milestones, including her appointment as the in-charge for East Delhi during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and her victory in the 2020 Delhi Legislative Assembly election from the Kalkaji constituency. She was later inducted into the Delhi government as a Cabinet Minister alongside Saurabh Bharadwaj.
