Two Dead, One Injured After Ganesh Idol Hits High-Tension Wire in Hyderabad

In a tragic incident in Hyderabad, two people lost their lives due to electrocution while transporting a large Ganesh idol late on Monday night, August 18. The accident occurred on Bandlaguda road when a group of devotees was shifting the idol from Jalpally Ganesh Market to Lal Darwaza in the Old City. The idol, being carried on a tractor, came in contact with a 33 KV overhead high-tension wire near Royal Sea Hotel around 1 am.

According to police reports, two individuals identified as Dhoni and Vikas, who were seated on the tractor, suffered severe electric shocks the moment the idol touched the live wire. Despite the immediate efforts of others present, both men collapsed on the spot. They were rushed to a nearby hospital in Hyderabad, but unfortunately, both succumbed to their injuries during treatment. Another person, Akhil, sustained injuries in the accident and is currently undergoing medical care.

Following the incident, officials from Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) visited the site and inspected the power lines. Managing Director Musharaff Faroqui urged citizens to exercise extreme caution during idol transportation and stay away from overhead power cables to avoid such tragedies. The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the Ganesh festivities in the city, highlighting the urgent need for better awareness and safety measures during processions.
