Acclaimed lawyer and social activist Indira Jaising will represent the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Forum (WBJDF) in the Supreme Court on September 17. The forum is protesting the rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata. Jaising takes over from senior advocate Geeta Luthra, who previously represented WBJDF.
The Joint Platform of Doctors, West Bengal, will be represented by senior counsel Karuna Nandi and Sabyasachi Chattopadhyay. Aniket Mahato, a junior doctor and face of the movement, confirmed Jaising’s representation. Her participation is crucial, especially after recent meetings between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and WBJDF delegates ended inconclusively.
