Hyderabad–Srisailam Highway Collapses Amid Cyclone Montha Downpour; Traffic Comes to a Standstill

A major section of the Hyderabad–Srisailam Highway caved in on Thursday morning, October 30, following relentless rainfall triggered by Cyclone Montha. The incident occurred near Lattipur village in Nagarkurnool district, cutting off traffic movement between Hyderabad and Srisailam. Viral videos from the site show the road split into two, leaving several commuters stranded. In one clip, a man can be seen risking his life by jumping over the collapsed stretch, highlighting the severity of the damage.

Authorities have rushed to the spot and are working on restoring connectivity. The collapse has not only disrupted local transport but also raised serious concerns about the highway’s structural integrity under extreme weather conditions. District officials have warned travelers to avoid the route until repair works are completed. Preliminary reports suggest that continuous heavy rainfall over the past 48 hours weakened the base, leading to the road giving way.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for Telangana, forecasting more intense showers across multiple districts, including Nagarkurnool, Khammam, Warangal, and Karimnagar. Hyderabad is expected to experience moderate rainfall throughout the day. The Telangana Weatherman also cautioned that several areas could receive between 80 to 180 mm of rainfall as Cyclone Montha continues to move inland. Emergency response teams remain on high alert as the state braces for further downpours.
