The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has announced a 36-hour disruption in drinking water supply across several parts of the city, starting from 6 a.m. on Monday, October 13, to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 14. The shutdown is being implemented to facilitate urgent repair works on the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Project (KDWSP) Phase–III pipeline. Officials said a major leakage was detected on the 2375 mm diameter main pumping pipeline that carries Krishna water from Kodandapur to Godakondla, which caters to large portions of Hyderabad’s residential and commercial zones.
To address the issue, HMWSSB will undertake comprehensive maintenance activities, including replacing damaged air valves, gate valves, and other malfunctioning components along the pipeline stretch. During this repair period, water supply will be affected in multiple localities covered under the KDWSP Phase–III Ring Main–1 network. These areas include Gachibowli, Kondapur, Madhapur, Jubilee Hills, Mehdipatnam, Golconda, Karwan, Langer Houz, Shaikpet, and several parts of Uppal, Nagole, Vanasthalipuram, and Boduppal. Residents in these regions are expected to experience low pressure or complete disruption in water supply for the duration of the maintenance.
The Water Board has issued an advisory urging citizens to store adequate water in advance and use it carefully throughout the shutdown. HMWSSB assured that normal supply will be restored immediately after the completion of repair work and requested residents’ cooperation during the maintenance period. The department emphasized that the repairs are essential to prevent major pipeline bursts and to ensure the long-term reliability of the Krishna water supply system, which serves as one of Hyderabad’s main sources of drinking water.
