In the video, the victim can be seen walking alongside a female friend when the accused, who had been trailing them, suddenly lunges forward, grabs her inappropriately, and then quickly flees the scene. The shocking footage triggered widespread outrage among citizens and netizens, demanding swift action from authorities.
Reacting to the public outcry, the Bengaluru police promptly registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Sections 74, 75, and 78 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). South East Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sarah Fathima, confirmed to Aaj Tak that while they are currently awaiting a formal complaint from the victim, the police are prepared to initiate a suo motu case if necessary. “We are treating this case very seriously. Even if the victim does not come forward, we will act based on available evidence to ensure justice is served,” said the officer, emphasizing the department’s commitment to tackling crimes against women.
