In a significant move, over 24,000 retired employees of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGRTC) have come together to urge both the State and Union governments to fulfill a long-standing list of demands. On Friday, a section of these retired personnel submitted a formal memorandum to the TGRTC’s regional manager and depot manager in Mancherial. The gathering highlighted the challenges faced by former employees in receiving their rightful post-retirement benefits, sparking renewed attention toward the welfare of retired public transport staff.
Among the major demands raised to the State government are the prompt payment of terminal leave encashment and gratuity within a month of retirement, clearance of pending dearness allowance arrears, provision of medical facilities, and extension of free bus travel privileges to family members of retired staff. Additionally, the retirees are seeking the implementation of the 2017 pay revision scale which, they argue, has been long delayed and continues to impact their financial security.
The retired employees also appealed to the Central government to introduce policy-level reforms, such as fixing a minimum monthly pension of ₹9,000, implementing the Supreme Court’s 2022 ruling on higher pension disbursement, and reimbursing the difference in pension contributions collected from employees up until 2014. They further demanded exemption from income tax on the revised pension amount. As their collective plea gains traction, the retired RTC workers hope that both levels of government will take swift and favorable action to address their concerns.
