Traffic Home Guard Dies, Two Cops Injured After Lorry Hits Post in Miyapur

A tragic accident unfolded late Monday night, April 7, near the Miyapur Metro Station in Hyderabad when a speeding lorry lost control and rammed into a traffic post at Pillar No. 600. The impact was so severe that the structure was flung onto three on-duty traffic personnel stationed at the location as part of a no-entry enforcement task. The incident occurred around 10:25 p.m. while the lorry, coming from Kukatpally Road, was attempting a U-turn.

Home Guard Simhachalam, who bore badge number 1093, was critically injured in the crash and rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. Two other constables, Rajavardhan (PC 4838) and Vikender (PC 5134), were also hit by the post and sustained injuries. They are currently undergoing treatment, and their condition is being closely monitored. The trio had been on duty since 9 p.m., ensuring smooth traffic flow and implementing traffic restrictions in the area.

The lorry driver, identified as 35-year-old Srinivas from Sadashivapet, was taken into custody by the police shortly after the accident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was returning from Bharat Nagar after unloading rice bags. Authorities have registered a case and further investigation is underway to determine if negligence or mechanical failure contributed to the fatal incident. The Hyderabad traffic department has expressed deep sorrow over the loss and pledged to review safety protocols to protect personnel on duty.
