Three people lost their lives after an under-construction four-storey building collapsed in Delhi’s Rohini area, triggering a massive overnight rescue operation involving multiple emergency agencies. The incident occurred around 4:20 pm on Wednesday near an MCD school in Sector 16. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Police, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), and other departments rushed to the site to search for those trapped beneath the debris. One labourer was rescued alive and shifted to a hospital for treatment, while authorities continued clearing the rubble to ensure no one remained trapped.
According to police, the deceased have been identified as Ram (42), a local tailor, Kafe alias Nurul (24), a labourer, and Ram Dua (62), the father of the building owner. Officials said one victim was declared dead after being taken to the hospital, while the remaining two bodies were recovered during the prolonged rescue operation that continued through the night. Police have registered an FIR in connection with the incident, and an investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collapse.
Preliminary findings by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi indicate that plumbing work was being carried out inside the building at the time of the accident. Officials suspect that drilling or cutting of structural components, including beams and columns, may have weakened the structure, although the exact cause will only be confirmed after a detailed technical examination. The civic body also stated that the building had received approval under the SARAL Scheme, which grants construction permission based on self-certified documents submitted by licensed architects or engineers. Authorities have assured that accountability will be fixed once the investigation is completed.
