Telangana High Court’s sitting judge, Justice Maturi Girija Priyadarsini, passed away on Sunday, following a brief illness. She was 61 years old. The judge’s demise has left the legal community in mourning. Her mortal remains have been kept at her residence in Hafeezpet, and the last rites are scheduled to be performed on Monday at Mahaprasthanam in Jubilee Hills. Acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul, other judges of the High Court, and lawyers expressed their condolences and paid tribute to the late judge.

Justice Priyadarsini had been serving as a judge of the Telangana High Court since 2022. She was ranked 16th in seniority among the sitting judges and was due to retire next year. Throughout her career, she was known for her dedication and commitment to the law. She had a distinguished educational background, earning multiple master’s degrees in subjects like Sociology, Public Administration, and Political Science. Additionally, she completed her law course from N.B.M Law College, Visakhapatnam, and went on to pursue an L.L.M in Labour and Industrial Law, excelling particularly in Constitutional Law.

Born to Maturi Appa Rao, a Commercial Tax Officer in Telangana, and Nagaratnam, Justice Priyadarsini had a family life that was grounded in education and service. After completing her Intermediate studies, she married Dr. K. Vijay Kumar and had two sons, Nikhil and Akhil. Her passing has left a significant void in the legal field of Telangana, and she will be remembered for her contributions to the judicial system and the legacy she leaves behind.
