Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has publicly expressed support for her son, Raihan Vadra, after more than 70 photographs were reportedly removed from his photography exhibition at Delhi’s Bikaner House over their alleged political content. Sharing an emotional message, Priyanka said that those in power who fear artistic expression have already lost the strength they seek to protect. She encouraged her son to continue standing for truth and creativity, adding that she would always be proud of him. Her statement has drawn widespread attention as the controversy surrounding the exhibition continues to grow.
The exhibition, titled “No Idea Is Final,” featured photographs documenting protests and public life. Raihan Vadra alleged that the exhibition management asked him to remove several images, including photographs depicting youth protests in Delhi and two images featuring the Indian national flag. He said he refused to remove the Tricolour photographs and decided to continue the exhibition in a limited format while looking for another venue where the complete collection could be displayed without restrictions. The incident has sparked a debate over artistic freedom and the limits of expression in public exhibition spaces.
The reported removal of the artworks has triggered strong reactions from several Congress leaders, including Robert Vadra, Pawan Khera and Karti Chidambaram, who questioned the decision to take down photographs documenting public protests. Pawan Khera claimed that nearly half of the exhibition, around 74 artworks, had been removed because they were considered political, while also questioning objections to photographs featuring the national flag. The controversy has reignited discussions on freedom of expression, censorship, and the role of public institutions in hosting exhibitions that address social and political issues.
