Delhi Crime Branch Summons CJP Leaders Again After Their Release from Jail

The Delhi Police Crime Branch has summoned Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka for questioning, just a day after they were released from Tihar Jail. Both leaders have been directed to appear before investigators at the Crime Branch office in Rajouri Garden to record their statements in connection with two criminal cases linked to their attempt to enter Jantar Mantar on October 13. CJP member Ajinkya Shinde has also been called for questioning as the investigation into the incident gathers pace.

The controversy began after Das and Ranka allegedly climbed over a locked gate to enter Jantar Mantar, which Delhi Police had earlier removed from the list of designated protest sites. Police claim the group crossed barricades and accessed the area through a private property before security personnel intervened. Two separate FIRs were registered, including charges related to criminal conspiracy, trespassing, disobeying official orders, and obstructing public servants. The cases have since been transferred to the Crime Branch, which is now conducting a detailed investigation into the incident.

The two leaders were released on October 21 after a Special Executive Magistrate rejected Delhi Police’s request to extend their judicial custody. They were granted bail on personal bonds of Rs 50,000 each after agreeing to maintain peace and refrain from organizing protests at Jantar Mantar while the venue remains closed for demonstrations. Das and Ranka have been leading protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, allegations that the Election Commission has strongly denied.
