A Jammu and Kashmir Police constable was killed in a terrorist attack in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday while deployed on Amarnath Yatra security duty. According to officials, the attack took place around 12:30 pm on the Anantnag–Kokernag road when terrorists allegedly opened fire on the policeman. He was critically injured in the attack and rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Ashiq Hussain, a resident of Budgam district. Security officials immediately rushed additional reinforcements to the area after the attack and launched a massive search operation to trace and apprehend the assailants. The area has been cordoned off as security forces continue combing operations to prevent the attackers from escaping.

The incident comes despite heightened security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir for the ongoing annual Amarnath Yatra. The attack has ended a prolonged period of relative calm in the Valley during the pilgrimage season and has once again raised concerns over the security situation in the region. Authorities are continuing their investigation while search operations remain underway.
