A young woman in Maharashtra’s Nagpur allegedly died by suicide while on a video call with her boyfriend after a dispute over marriage. According to police, the couple had been in a relationship for several years. The woman worked at a private company in Nagpur, while the accused, a resident of Amravati, was pursuing a PhD in Pune. Her family has alleged that he exploited her on the promise of marriage before later refusing to marry her.

Police said the accused had earlier met the woman’s mother and expressed his intention to marry her, but his family reportedly opposed the relationship. Investigators also said that whenever the woman raised the issue of marriage, he avoided giving a clear response. Her family further alleged that he threatened to circulate her private photographs on social media if she continued to pressure him for marriage, causing her severe mental distress.

On the night of September 19, the woman reportedly called her boyfriend on a video call and told him she intended to end her life. According to the complaint, he allegedly made no effort to stop her. Police said the call remained connected for about 23 minutes after the woman died. A case of abetment to suicide has been registered at Dhantoli Police Station, and the accused is being questioned as the investigation continues.
