Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan once again raised the Kashmir issue during his address at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). Calling for a peaceful resolution, Erdoğan said that all disputes in South Asia, including Kashmir, should be addressed through dialogue in accordance with the UN Charter and relevant UN resolutions.

This is not the first time Erdoğan has spoken about Kashmir at the UN. He made similar remarks during previous UNGA sessions, although he did not mention the issue in his 2024 address. His latest comments have once again brought the Kashmir issue into international discussion during the annual gathering of world leaders at the United Nations.

India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter and has previously rejected Türkiye’s remarks on the issue as unacceptable, urging Ankara to respect the sovereignty of other nations. Erdoğan’s latest statement is expected to draw a response from New Delhi, as both countries have held differing positions on Kashmir in recent years.
