Nagarkurnool Hostel Food Scare: 40 Tribal Students Fall Ill After Allegedly Eating Contaminated Khichdi

Around 40 students residing at the Mannanur Primitive Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTG) Gurukul Hostel in Amrabad mandal of Telangana’s Nagarkurnool district fell ill on Thursday morning after allegedly consuming khichdi contaminated with maggots during breakfast. According to students, several children began suffering from vomiting and severe stomach pain shortly after eating the meal. All affected students were rushed to the Achampet Government Hospital, where they received medical treatment. One student, who had not yet eaten the breakfast, said he was informed by fellow students about the contamination moments before he entered the dining hall.

Following the incident, Achampet MLA Dr. Vamshi Krishna and Nagarkurnool MP Mallu Ravi, who were in Delhi at the time, immediately contacted district officials and hospital authorities, directing them to ensure proper medical care for the children. In a video statement, Dr. Vamshi Krishna said a detailed investigation has been ordered and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone found responsible for negligence, including hostel staff, caretakers, or administrators. He stressed that the safety and well-being of students would not be compromised.

The MLA also recalled that a similar food poisoning incident had occurred at another hostel in Amrabad mandal last year, saying repeated incidents point to serious lapses in supervision and food safety standards. He assured that the inquiry would identify those responsible and that appropriate disciplinary action would follow. The incident has once again raised concerns over the quality of food served in residential welfare hostels and the need for stricter monitoring to prevent such occurrences in the future.
