Mamata Banerjee Leads Protest in Kolkata Over Alleged Post-Election Violence

Kolkata: Trinamool Congress chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister on Tuesday launched a day-long dharna in central Kolkata, accusing the BJP of targeting party workers and leaders following the recent Assembly election results. Addressing supporters gathered at Esplanade’s Y-channel, Banerjee vowed to continue her political struggle against the BJP and alleged that Trinamool Congress members were facing intimidation and attacks in several parts of the state. The protest was organized to highlight what the party describes as a growing pattern of post-poll violence and political harassment.

The demonstration also focused on an alleged attack on Banerjee’s nephew and senior TMC leader , as well as concerns regarding the eviction of hawkers and restrictions imposed on opposition activities. According to Banerjee, authorities denied permission for a stage and sound system at the protest venue, forcing her to address supporters using a megaphone. Despite these limitations, large numbers of party workers attended the dharna, where slogans were raised throughout the event. Banerjee claimed that several newly elected TMC legislators were facing threats and difficulties in participating in party activities.

The protest witnessed the presence of several senior Trinamool Congress leaders, including , , , and . However, the absence of many newly elected legislators attracted attention and sparked political discussion. Banerjee maintained that the protest would continue until the evening as scheduled, emphasizing that her party would continue raising its voice against alleged political violence and challenges faced by its members in the aftermath of the elections.
