Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024: Dates Announced

The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024. Maharashtra will go to polls on November 20, while Jharkhand will have a two-phase election on November 13 and 20. Counting of votes for both states will take place on November 23. Additionally, by-elections will be held for three Lok Sabha and 47 Assembly seats, including Wayanad on November 13.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar expressed concern over urban apathy, citing low voter turnout in areas like Colaba, which polled only 40% in the Lok Sabha elections. He emphasized the importance of increasing voter participation. The Election Commission has also taken measures to ensure a fair election, including cracking down on money power and providing facilities for voters, such as seating arrangements at polling booths.
