Hyderabad: In a dramatic turn of events, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Tuesday announced the suspension of its MLC and Telangana Jagruti president K Kavitha, marking one of the biggest internal rifts within the party in recent years. The action came barely a day after Kavitha launched a direct attack on her cousin and senior leader T Harish Rao, accusing him of conspiring to frame her father and BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) in the ongoing inquiry into the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project. The suspension order, issued on September 2, stated that Kavitha’s conduct and “continued anti-party activities” were damaging the organization’s image and discipline, prompting the leadership to take immediate and stern action.
Kavitha’s allegations have sent shockwaves through the party and political circles in Telangana. She not only accused Harish Rao of playing a central role in the alleged irregularities in the Kaleshwaram project but also named former Rajya Sabha MP J Santosh Kumar and Megha Engineering and Infrastructure MD Krishna Reddy as key players. According to her, these leaders mishandled major aspects of the project, amassed huge assets in the process, and were now attempting to scapegoat KCR by shifting the blame entirely onto him. “It was Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar who managed crucial areas of the project. KCR is being unfairly targeted for decisions that were not his alone,” she alleged, adding that certain BRS leaders were working in collusion with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
The explosive allegations and Kavitha’s subsequent suspension have deepened the crisis within the BRS at a time when the party is already facing political heat following its electoral setbacks. Party insiders fear that the open feud between family members could further erode its public image and weaken the organization’s morale. The suspension of Kavitha, once considered one of the prominent faces of the party, highlights the widening cracks in the leadership. With Harish Rao and other senior leaders remaining silent for now, political observers believe that the developments could escalate into a larger confrontation in the days to come, putting the future course of the BRS under serious uncertainty.
