Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday strongly urged the Central government to step up relief efforts for flood-affected regions across North India. He stressed that the Union government must allocate substantial financial assistance and roll out a dedicated package for the worst-hit states, including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Haryana. Highlighting the severity of the calamity, Kharge emphasized that natural disasters should never become an arena for political blame games and instead require coordinated action between the Centre and the states.
Expressing concern over the ground situation in Punjab, Kharge pointed out that more than 2.5 lakh people continue to struggle with the devastating effects of the floods, which have claimed several lives and left thousands displaced. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and said the Congress party stands firmly with the victims. Kharge added that he has been in direct contact with senior state leaders in Punjab to assess the ongoing crisis and ensure timely support to the affected families.
The Congress chief further appealed to the Central and state governments to intensify relief operations and provide urgent assistance, including rehabilitation measures and prompt medical aid. He said the focus must remain on delivering immediate help to those impacted and restoring normalcy at the earliest. Reiterating the Congress party’s commitment, Kharge assured that his party will continue to provide all possible help and support to flood-affected communities in their time of need.
