Former BJP leader K Annamalai has announced the launch of a new political movement following his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party, declaring that he intends to contest future Assembly elections. Speaking to the media after stepping down from the party, Annamalai said he had informed BJP leadership of his decision as early as December 2025. According to him, the party requested that he complete the election process before formally leaving. The former Tamil Nadu BJP chief stated that his decision was driven by a desire to create a fresh political alternative focused on reform and public participation.
Annamalai said the new movement would encourage people from all sections of society, including professionals and technocrats, to take an active role in politics. He stressed that Tamil Nadu needs a different political culture that moves away from personality-driven politics and hereditary leadership. Calling for a change in the state’s political framework, he argued that talent and merit should play a greater role in governance and development. He also emphasized that no political position should be treated as permanent, including those held by himself.
The new platform, named “We the Leader,” will reportedly operate alongside the APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Ethics and Politics, which will be based in Coimbatore. Annamalai claimed that more than 47,000 people joined the movement shortly after its announcement, indicating significant public interest. Meanwhile, BJP president Nitin Nabin has officially accepted Annamalai’s resignation from the party’s primary membership, bringing an end to his association with the BJP and opening a new chapter in Tamil Nadu politics.
