Israeli Airstrikes on Lebanon: 34 Killed and 80 Injured in Escalating Conflict

At least 34 people have been killed and 80 others injured following Israeli airstrikes targeting southern and eastern Lebanon. The attacks, which have intensified since September 23, resulted in casualties across several towns and villages, particularly in the Baalbek-Hermel governorate in eastern Lebanon. The National News Agency (NNA) reported that 24 people were killed and 44 others injured in towns like Bodai, Shmustar, and Ras al-Ain. Another 10 casualties occurred in the southern region, where Nabatieh, Tyre, and Marjeyoun districts bore the brunt of the strikes.

The escalation of violence is part of an ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, with Hezbollah retaliating by launching rockets and missiles at Israeli military targets. These include the towns of Khiam, and the Kibbutz of Hanita, as well as the moshavs of Avivim and Dishon. Clashes also erupted between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli soldiers attempting to infiltrate the border town of al-Bayyada, resulting in casualties on the Israeli side.

This flare-up follows months of heightened tensions, with Israel beginning a ground operation across its northern border into Lebanon in early October. The continued airstrikes and military engagements reflect the growing intensity of the conflict, as both sides endure heavy losses.
