Gaza: In a significant security operation, 20 individuals accused of looting aid trucks were killed in southern Gaza’s Rafah area. The operation, supported by Hamas and tribal committees, was launched to curb the rampant theft of humanitarian aid entering the besieged region. According to Al-Aqsa TV, the campaign aims to dismantle gangs responsible for diverting vital supplies to black markets, exacerbating famine-like conditions in Gaza.
The crackdown followed public outrage after several aid trucks carrying essential items, such as flour, were looted. Eyewitnesses reported heavy gunfire and explosions during the hours-long operation near Gaza’s border. The incident highlights the growing challenges faced by humanitarian organizations, with the UNRWA recently revealing that a 109-truck UN convoy was violently looted on Saturday. Most of the supplies were seized, and drivers were reportedly forced at gunpoint to unload the goods.
As Gaza continues to endure severe shortages of food and basic necessities, local authorities have emphasized that the operation does not target specific tribes but aims to restore order and ensure aid reaches those in need. Meanwhile, international bodies have criticized Israel for failing to meet its legal obligations under international law to facilitate safe aid delivery to the region.
