Hyderabad: Reports claiming free travel on MMTS trains from June 2 have been clearly dismissed by the Telangana government and South Central Railway. Officials have termed the circulating information as misleading, making it clear that no final decision has been taken so far. The clarification came after multiple social media posts created confusion among daily commuters in the city.
According to FactCheck Telangana, the proposal for free MMTS travel is still under active consideration and has not been approved. Authorities emphasized that discussions are ongoing between the state government and railway officials, but any implementation will only happen after proper approval and official announcement. Until then, passengers will have to continue paying regular fares.
Currently, MMTS services in Hyderabad are operating at reduced capacity compared to pre-COVID levels. While earlier over 1.2 lakh passengers used the service daily, the number has now dropped to around 38,000–42,000. Similarly, train services have also reduced from 121 to around 80–88, reflecting a slower recovery of the public transport system in the city.
