A tragic road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district claimed the lives of at least 15 people after a passenger bus lost control and plunged into a deep gorge on Monday morning. The incident occurred near Kagort village in the Ramnagar area when the vehicle was navigating a narrow and dangerous mountain road. Officials said the bus was travelling from a remote village towards Udhampur when it skidded off the road at a blind curve.
Initial reports indicated that around 16 passengers were injured, though some sources suggest the number could be closer to 20, with several in critical condition. The bus reportedly rolled down a steep hillside after losing balance, leading to severe damage and heavy casualties at the scene. The difficult terrain and depth of the gorge made rescue operations more challenging and time-consuming.
Soon after the accident, police teams, rescue personnel, and local residents rushed to the spot and launched a large-scale rescue effort. Injured passengers were carefully pulled out of the gorge and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities are continuing relief operations and assessing the situation, while the incident highlights the ongoing risks associated with travel on hilly and poorly guarded roads in the region.
